GreenFiber Attic Insulation Nationwide

GreenFiber Attic Insulation: The Dallas Owner’s Guide

GreenFiber attic insulation installed in a Dallas home typically costs $1,450 to $2,900 for a full attic, with partial top-offs starting around $700. We stock GreenFiber cellulose and have crews running Dallas jobs five days a week, so same-week installation is standard during fall and spring. Most owners don’t realize they have a problem until the upstairs bedroom won’t hold temperature in July or the July electric bill lands $90 higher than last year. You might also notice cold spots near the ceiling, uneven heating between rooms, or a second floor that feels muggy no matter what the thermostat says.

We’re an independent insulation contractor in Dallas. We install and service GreenFiber products but we are not affiliated with GreenFiber corporate. That means we tell you straight what’s failing and what it costs, not what a manufacturer’s brochure wants you to believe.

Which GreenFiber Models This Applies To

Most Dallas attics built before 2010 carry GreenFiber cellulose blown-in insulation, not batts. The common products we work with are GreenFiber Sanctuary and GreenFiber Insulation Plus, both loose-fill cellulose that gets blown through a hose into the attic cavity. If you’re not sure what’s up there, look for a paper tag on the attic floor or a staple card near the attic hatch. No tag? Measure the settled depth. Dallas homes built in the 1980s and 1990s usually have 6 to 9 inches of settled cellulose, which is well under today’s recommended R-38 to R-60 for our climate.

A real compatibility gotcha with GreenFiber attic insulation: it settles. Cellulose settles up to 20% over its life, which means a Dallas attic that once measured R-30 can quietly drop to R-24 without losing a single fiber. No other insulation type drifts that much without visible damage, so homeowners assume everything’s fine. It’s not. Also note that GreenFiber raised its density spec in newer Sanctuary batches, so older and newer material don’t always blend evenly when you just top off. We pull a small sample and check density before adding anything.

We carry both GreenFiber OEM material and quality aftermarket cellulose from our eight stocked brands. For attics where GreenFiber is already installed, we usually match it with GreenFiber to keep fire-retardant chemistry consistent. Where budget matters more, we’ll quote a compatible aftermarket option and explain the trade-off before you commit.

Signs Your GreenFiber Attic Insulation Is Failing

  • Uneven temperatures between rooms. Cellulose settles over time, especially near exterior walls and around recessed light cans, leaving thin spots that let Dallas heat pour in. The room directly under the thin spot runs 5 to 8 degrees warmer than the rest of the house.
  • Higher cooling bills with no change in habits. When GreenFiber loses depth, your AC runs longer to fight the heat gain from the attic. A Dallas summer bill that jumps $80 to $120 without a rate change is a classic settled-insulation symptom.
  • Damp or musty smell from the attic. Cellulose absorbs moisture from roof leaks or bathroom-vent leaks. Wet GreenFiber loses its insulating value fast and can compact into a dense, damp mat that holds water against your ceiling drywall.
  • Visible dust or insulation particles near ceiling gaps. If you’re finding gray fuzz around recessed lights, ceiling fans, or attic hatch trim, the insulation is getting disturbed or breaking down. That airborne material is a sign the attic seal is compromised.
  • Pests have moved through the attic. Dallas gets its share of rodents, and GreenFiber gets trampled when they nest. Tunnels and matted-down runs through the insulation mean the material is no longer providing the coverage it should, and it likely needs removal and replacement, not just a top-off.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what GreenFiber attic insulation work runs in Dallas, installed:

  • Attic top-off (add 6 to 8 inches over existing settled GreenFiber): $700 to $1,200
  • Full removal and replacement for a 1,200-square-foot attic: $1,500 to $2,200
  • Full removal and replacement for a 2,500-square-foot attic: $2,200 to $2,900
  • Air sealing included with any full job: $200 to $450 (depending on how many penetrations need sealing)

The spread depends on attic size, how much old material needs removal, access difficulty, and whether air sealing is needed. You get a written price before any work starts, on every job. The price covers labor, material, cleanup, and haul-off. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work in writing for a full year, labor and materials included. If the repair fails, we come back free and make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

What you can safely check yourself: settle depth with a tape measure, visible moisture stains on ceiling drywall, and whether the attic hatch seals tightly. You can also look for obvious gaps around recessed lights from below. That’s about where safe DIY ends.

Adding blown-in cellulose is not a weekend job. It takes a commercial blower, two people, and a respirator. We’ve had Dallas homeowners buy the GreenFiber from a big-box store, rent a machine, and end up with lumpy coverage, clogged hoses, and a dust-covered hallway that takes weeks to clean. We do this every week, with background-checked techs who know the equipment, the material, and how to get even depth without burying soffit vents. Call us at (361) 607-0906 and we’ll give you a straight quote before anyone sets foot in your attic.

How Long Does GreenFiber Attic Insulation Last?

GreenFiber cellulose in a Dallas attic lasts 20 to 30 years before it needs replacement, but it starts losing effectiveness around year 12 or 15 as it settles. In TX heat with a hot attic hitting 140°F plus in summer, the material itself doesn’t degrade chemically, but the settlement happens faster than in cooler climates. You can stretch the useful life by topping off every decade or so, but if it’s wet, pest-damaged, or compressed to less than 6 inches, replacement beats topping off.

Can My GreenFiber Insulation Be Repaired Instead of Replaced?

Yes, if the problem is localized settling or a single wet patch, we can often remove the bad area and blow in fresh GreenFiber to match. But if the moisture has been there long enough to stain or sag the ceiling drywall, or if rodents have tunneled through most of the attic, patchwork leaves you with the same problem in a different spot. We’ll tell you which one you have. Estimates are free either way.

How Long Does a GreenFiber Attic Insulation Swap Take?

Most Dallas attic insulation jobs take one day. A full removal and replacement on a typical 1,500-square-foot attic runs 6 to 8 hours with a two-person crew. A top-off is faster, usually 3 to 4 hours. We show up with everything on the truck, so you’re not waiting on a second visit for material. Our tech’s name and photo are sent to you before arrival, and they show ID at the door.

Do You Stock GreenFiber on the Truck?

Yes. Our Dallas trucks carry GreenFiber Sanctuary and compatible aftermarket cellulose, along with blowers, hoses, and air-sealing materials. We also stock Reflectix for radiant barrier work that sometimes gets paired with attic insulation jobs. If we need to order something unusual, you’ll know before you commit to anything, and the price doesn’t change after you approve it.
